On 1 September 2020, I was able to apply for Austrian citizenship. I have been a dual Swiss-Austrian citizen since 30 December 2020. We arrived in Austria on 30 May. On 1 June, the passport was issued.
Now I am Austrian. Also. As I always have been. Now with paper.
A part of my soul has always felt connected. With Vienna above all. The roots have always been palpable and have made me travel to Vienna regularly over the years.
Now I have time and space to follow these traces. And to find out what it means to be Austrian.
